About Course

Bachelor of technology in phytopharmaceuticals is an interdisciplinary course that involves processes of production, design, marketing, and sale of pharmaceuticals. It covers the stage of drug discovery, drug design, development and their constituent parts within the pharmaceutical industry. Deals with research and manufacturing of pharmaceutical drugs. And technology used in pharmaceutical industry as project design, process engineering and biotechnology applications like tissue culture and genetic engineering which can be maintained by  Phytopharmaceutical Engineers. Furthermore, this course covers a wide range of jobs and further studies.

The first batch of Bachelor of technology in phytopharmaceuticals started in the year 2019, at School of Agriculture and Bioengineering, Centurion University of Technology and Management, Paralakhemundi, Odisha.

Combinely herbal companies like Himalaya wellness company and some others like Emami, Dabur, etc. designed this stream.

Phytopharmaceutical is an interdisciplinary course. In addition It deals with theoretical and practical knowledge of Phyto i.e., plants and pharmaceuticals with knowledge of different technology.

The Department of phytopharmaceuticals is more concerned about AYUSH than allopathy.  AYUSH is all about traditional medicine systems i.e. Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.

ELIGIBILITY FOR bACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY IN PHYTOPHARMACEUTICALS

For getting admission in B. Tech phytopharmaceuticals, candidates must complete the qualifying standards listed below. 

• Intermediate with a minimum of 50% aggregate from recognized boards.
• Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics (optional) must have been studied at the +2 level.
• After this, students should appear for entrance tests at the university or by following centurion university

• Level – Graduate

• Duration – 4 years

SYLLABUS\COURSES

• The syllabus includes courses from Engineering that includes basics courses of engineering(theory and practical). This comes under CBCS(Choice based credit system). It means the student is free to choose courses based on their aim and core courses. It deals with all aspect of pharmaceutical technologies and drug formulation based on herbal extract. In addition, it deals with the cultivation and harvest of plants and their extraction and separation technologies. Apart from this course introduces Ayurveda as Ayurvedic dosage form and ayurvedic way of treatment based on Tridosha.

• As the course is based on CBCS, students are free to select a domain of their interest of field. Mainly two domains are being taken by students in phytopharmaceuticals that are

  • Nutraceuticals

Genetic Engineering

• Strengthens knowledge on various cloning and expression vectors. Impart basic knowledge of bioinformatics in in-silico and genomics to students. Analyze DNA, RNA, and protein sequences using computational and genomic tools. This course aims to demystify genomic science, molecular biology, and some of the ways they intersect.

NUTRACEUTICALS

• The course Nutraceutical includes Introduction to Nutraceutical, functional foods, and nutrigenetics.
• Nutraceuticals are basically nutrition-based food products which directly fits to the saying “Food as medicine”. It is something that provides physiological benefits and also protects against chronic disease by enhancing the immune system and making it furthermore strong. Nutraceuticals mostly improves our health. They slowdown the aging process, prevent from chronic diseases, increase life-expectancy, and support the structure and function of the body. Gradually Nutraceutical is becoming the best option in replacement of the pharmaceutical industry since it has little or no side-effects.
• Nutraceutical products doesn’t undergo any strict regulations, doesn’t require government sanction, and have Less cost of production is involved.

Training

Apart from theoretical and practical knowledge, this course provides students with industrial training in the pharmaceutical industry. In two steps this course also provides an internship depending on the student’s strength. Also a major project in the pharmaceutical industry followed by minor projects at university.

Centurion University also provides Phytopharmaceutical students with working experience at GT food (Gram Trang) where herbal extraction using supercritical fluid CO₂ extraction for drug, cosmetics, and nutraceutical products is done.
